Weird and wonderful things often happen when you live in the amazing town of Ottery St Mary! Nearly 2 years ago we welcomed a refugee family from Syria into our community. I personally don't know the details of the suffering they experienced, but it is safe to say suffer they did. A young couple with 2 small children, they have settled really well. The mum, Amneh came to my shop for about 6 months last year to be with other ladies, practice her English and learn to knit. She was an excellent student and mastered the art very quickly. It wasn't long before she told us that she was expecting another baby, and she set about knitting squares to make into a blanket. Baby Mary arrived last autumn. You are probably wondering what all this has to do with the UN - well Amneh, baby Mary, 2 ladies from Abide (the organisation that made the families arrival here possible) and 2 gentlemen from the UN have just left my shop! They wanted to know all about Amneh's time here and what she learnt. They took loads of photos...…. and I took one of them, see below! Which just goes to show that
on a blustery, wet grey day in Ottery you can often find a glimpse of calm, bright sunshine!
